Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the city.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the events of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, striking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the party access places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them little choice but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to round up the Questers and Planners tables.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
