Wimbledon Adopts Video Review System This Season.

The Championships court with replay system

Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay systems.

Replay systems will make its debut at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.

Players are granted the right to challenge specific decisions from the official, following the system already in operation at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.

This technology will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.

This development arrives only a season following the AELTC implemented ELC, which brought an end to the 147-year role of line judges.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Competitors cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can request the official to review specific situations, including:

  • Whether a ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a shot touched an opponent's racquet or body during play.
  • Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a rally.

Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a player can request.

A Recent Example

A recent incident occurred in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.

Draper admitted it was a tough situation for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled Draper was guilty of hindrance, granting the point to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the American major for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have video reviews implemented at all of its events.

Additional Innovations

Another change at Wimbledon 2025 involves the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the ELC system.

This solves instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain if a shot was in or out.

In other news, with precisely a century of days to go until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have further announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
